About Us

In 1951 our Christian Churches of San Diego County, discussed the possibility of establishing a church in Chula Vista. After several meetings of the Executive Committee, it was proposed these churches pool their resources and employ a full time minister to organize and establish a Christian Church in Chula Vista.
It was agreed that the Chula  Vista Women's Clubhouse be rented as a meeting place and that local ministers take turn in conducting services until a pastor could be found. On March 4, 1951, Charles Severns, Pastor of the University Christian Church met with a group for the first service.
On April 22, 1951, Mr. W. A. Ross from Brawley, California was invited to occupy the pulpit and consider possibilities of becoming the regular pastor. The local committee working with the State Missionary Society extended a call to Mr. Ross and he agreed to begin his work on June 1, 1951. At this time there six members of the church.
December 2nd Church Officers were elected, and shortly afterwards, a Christians Women's Fellowship was organized with Mrs. Ada Ross as President.
Church attendance was increased and the charter membership was closed Easter Sunday, April 13, 1952 with 72 people listed for charter membership. There were now 128 in Sunday School, and an average of 119 at Church Service.
The present building site was purchased and Mr. A.
G. Burchett was elected Treasurer of the building fund with Mr. E. E. Reynolds, Captain of the building fund drive. Many substantial weekly pledges were made.
Because of failing health, Mr. Ross retired from ministry on October 1, 1954. There were 260 people added to the church during his ministry.
Anor C. Emerson, for 10 years pastor of East San Diego Christian Church, on October 1, 1954 became succeeding minister to W.A. Ross.
On March 20, 1955 ground breaking services were held.
Construction began on the new church edifice on April 10, 1955, under the direction of the Building Committee of which A.G. Burchett was the capable Chairman. Mr. Joe Rabe was employed as Superintendent of Construction and Robert Ingle, one of our Elders, was hired as a foreman.
The Corner Stone Services were held September 18, 1955. More than 300 people were present.
The first worship service was held in the new Sanctuary on Sunday, December 4, 1955. 353 people attended this service, many of whom were visitors from other churches. Since, entering into our new Church home, for nine consecutive weeks there were responses to the Gospel invitation.
